There’s a really cool story about the famous upright bass that belonged to Bill Black, who played bass for Elvis back in the mid-fifties. He was only with Elvis for a few years, but he also had his own group that played at different clubs around Memphis.
Black died in 1965, but his daughter tracked down her father’s bass through a number of years and contacts. Nancy Shockley finally caught up with the vintage instrument and it’s current owner, Paul McCartney. The entire story on Memphis Online
