I recently revisited one of the best ever concert films. The Last Waltz was recorded on Thanksgiving 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, by The Band as they perform their last concert after sixteen years on the road. This DVD is a must have for any music collector. I’m always amazed at The Band’s versatility. They can play any style of music, and it clearly shows through the camera.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, the concert film captures Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson on stage with a host of special guests including Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Paul Butterfield, Ronnie Hawkins and Joni Mitchell. All their famous hits are here, along with some real gems with each of their guest artists.
DVD Features:
Run Time: 117 minutes
Dolby Digital 5.1 audio remix
Commentary by Robbie Robertson and Martin Scorsese
Featurette: “Revisiting The Last Waltz”
Archival outtakes: Jam 2
