Kelly Clarkson sang a cover of Patty Griffin’s “Up To The Mountain” on American Idol last night with special guest Jeff Beck on guitar. Now there’s an artist I never would have expected to see on that show.
But it was a special event, in that the American Idol show is using their star power to raise funds for the following various charities, which will save and change the lives of children and young people in extreme poverty in both the USA and Africa.
America’s Second Harvest, The Nation’s Food Bank Network http://www.secondharvest.org/
Boys & Girls Clubs of America
The Children’s Health Fund
The Global Fund - To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria
Malaria No More - http://www.malarianomore.org/
NothingButNets.net
Save the Children
Unicef
ONE, The Campaign to Make Poverty History - http://www.one.org/
Scholastic.com
iTunes will pass all net proceeds from the sale of Idol Gives Back content to the event’s charity-CPEF. For all visitors to iTunes from the americanidol.com site from now until May 23rd, an additional percentage of your total iTunes purchases will go to CPEF. www.cpefund.org
A very worthwhile effort, that has reportedly raised 30 million dollars so far. Visit www.cpefund.org/americanidol/ for more information.
